Ten years designing products. Lately, building them too.
I'm Irfan, a product designer in Jakarta. For most of the last decade I've worked remotely with teams in the UK, Europe and the US, mostly on enterprise software where the data is dense and the people using it are busy. That has meant R&D portfolio tools at GSK, marine inspection systems at bp, safety apps at Pertamina, and more recently Vision AI tooling at Samsung's research institute.
In early 2025 I started building the things I'd been imagining. Sometimes that begins in Figma, but more often I go straight from the idea to code, with AI tools doing a lot of the typing. It started as a way to prototype properly and carried on because it turned out I liked it. I've since shipped two small products of my own, Claeva and Linkbrand, front to back in React, TypeScript and Tailwind, payments and all. It changed how I hand work over. It tends to arrive as working code with the reasoning attached now, rather than a file of annotations.
I got my start on Topcoder, designing against a brief and a deadline for companies like IBM, GE and NASA. I won for IBM and GE and placed for NASA, and GE kept me on for a year afterwards to keep improving the concept. It taught me to decide quickly and to be honest about which decisions I'm sure of. I still teach UX part-time at Purwadhika, which keeps me explaining the basics out loud, and there is no better check on whether I actually understand something.
Based in Jakarta (UTC+7). My day overlaps five or six hours with UK and European teams, and two or three with the US East Coast.
A decade in product design, from startups to Fortune 500.

How I work
Design in code when it counts
Static mocks lie about motion, latency, and edge cases. When interaction is the product, I prototype in React, so decisions get made on real behavior, not guesses.
Enterprise rigor, startup speed
GSK and bp taught me rigor at scale. Founding my own products taught me to ship in weeks. Most problems need both. Most teams have one.
AI is a multiplier, not a shortcut
I use Claude Code and Cursor to compress the distance between idea and shipped product. The taste, research, and judgment stay human.
Data deserves better design
From billion-pound R&D dashboards to POS systems under rush-hour pressure, dense information made legible without stripping its power.
